Anime and Video Game Characters: Going Merry (One Piece)

Bio: The Going Merry was the first main transportation of the Straw Hats. She was given to the crew as a reward from Kaya for saving her. The Going Merry eventually became the Straw Hats home/friend. Surprisingly, the Going Merry has endured intense damage, and carelessly repaired by Ussop. The Going Merry sailed with the Straw Hats through the Grand Line until one point of their adventure…

Why Pick Her: The home of the Straw Hats. Compared to the other ships seen in the anime, the Going Merry is small. With its small size, the Going Merry was easy to maneuver from attacks. Also, due to its small size, the Going Merry was able to “fly” into Sky Island. The Going Merry becomes a “nakama” to the Straw Hats. At one point of the anime, Luffy and Ussop fought over the fate of the Going Merry. The “love” the Straw Hats showed to the Going Merry, eventually led the ship to somehow “form its own spirit”.

Epic Moment: More like… tragic moment… Before this scene, the Straw Hats were in a bind. Surrounded by marines, the Straw Hats had no hope of escaping. Suddenly, the Straw Hats hears a voice. It was the Going Merry that called them. The Straw Hats jumps into the water only to be rescued by the Going Merry. The crew checks around the ship to find out who was really controlling the Going Merry. Out of no where, the Going Merry breaks in the middle of the ocean. And then this scene comes along…
